Processing

The TreeDetect system automatically processes the uploaded data, delivering fast and accurate forest survey results.
The entire process is fully automated, the user only needs to provide the basic parameters. Although processing is automatic, every project undergoes a personal quality review to ensure the software delivers correct and accurate data.

Processing Modes

Processing can be initiated in two ways:

  1. Photogrammetric processing (when images are uploaded):
The system generates a precise 3D point cloud of the area from the uploaded images, which serves as the basis for all subsequent steps.

  2. LiDAR processing (when a point cloud is uploaded):
If a georeferenced point cloud is already available, the system works directly from it.

⚠️ Warning!
Make sure to upload a georeferenced point cloud!

Processing Steps

1. DTM (Digital Terrain Model): Generation of the terrain model.

2. CHM (Canopy Height Model): Derivation of the canopy height model.

3. Tree detection: The system identifies trees, determines their count and height.

4. Selection of measurable trees: Trees with sufficient point cloud density at 1.3 m height are selected for further measurements.

5. ID assignment: Each tree receives a unique TreeID identifier.

6. Coordinate recording: The X and Y coordinates of each tree are stored for future identification.

7. Parameter measurement: The system determines the diameter at breast height (D1.3), height (H), and crown diameter.

8. Metric derivation: Forest parameters are calculated from the processed data.

9. Scaling and estimation: For detected trees with incomplete data, the system estimates their diameter, volume, and basal area based on neighbouring similar trees, while height is still measured accurately.

Advantage:
The entire processing workflow is automatic — only the basic parameters need to be provided at upload time.

Tree Species and Calculation Method

Volume calculation is based on the tree species and the chosen calculation method specified in the project.
The software supports multiple volume calculation tables, flexibly adapting to various forestry standards.

⚠️ Warning!
Processing time depends on system load and the size of the uploaded files, and may take 24–48 hours.
