Processing
The TreeDetect platform performs fully automated processing of uploaded forestry data, ensuring fast and accurate forest inventory results.
The entire workflow is AI-driven — the user only needs to provide the basic input parameters.
Processing Modes
Data processing can start in two different ways:
-
Photogrammetry processing (when images are uploaded):
The system generates a precise 3D point cloud from the uploaded images, which serves as the foundation for further analysis. -
LiDAR processing (when point clouds are uploaded):
If a georeferenced point cloud is already available, the system processes it directly.
⚠️ Note:
Always upload georeferenced point clouds for accurate results!
Processing Steps
1. DTM (Digital Terrain Model): Generation of a digital terrain surface.
2. CHM (Canopy Height Model): Creation of a canopy height model.
3. Tree detection: The system identifies trees and determines their count and height.
4. Detecting measurable trees: Filters out trees with sufficient point density at 1.3 m height for further measurement.
5. Assigning identifiers: Each tree receives a unique TreeID.
6. Saving coordinates: The X and Y coordinates of every tree are recorded for traceability.
7. Parameter measurement: The system determines diameter at breast height (D1.3) and tree height (H).
8. Metric generation: Forestry parameters are automatically computed from the processed data.
9. Scaling: Using the ratio between “measured trees” and “detected trees,” the system extrapolates stand-level values:
- Total tree count
- Total volume
- Total basal area
✅ Advantage:
The entire processing workflow is automatic — users only need to provide the required parameters at upload.
Tree Species and Calculation Method
Volume estimation is based on the project’s selected tree species and calculation method.
TreeDetect supports multiple national and international volume tables and equations, ensuring compliance with forestry standards.
Results and Output
As output, the system generates a structured data table containing all calculated parameters.
From this dataset, the Report Page automatically produces various charts and visualizations, including the DTM, CHM, height and diameter heatmaps, and distribution graphs.

⚠️ Note:
Processing time depends on the size and number of uploaded files.
Most projects are processed within 24 hours, but very large LiDAR datasets may require several days to complete.
